Please meet Dopey Duke!
Duke is an absolutely gorgeous hunk of love, we believe him to be a mastiff x boxer but who knows what his breeding, what I can say is he is an absolute dope and everyone that meets him loves him! Duke is 7/8 years old.
Duke was saved from the Chinese meat market by Candy’s rescue. Yes dogs are food in China, if you don’t know the meat markets are absolutely evil and the treatment the dogs get and the things they have seen is nothing short of hell. Duke is one of the lucky ones and has come to us in the UK to find his forever home.
If you are not aware, there are no animal welfare laws in China so no dog is ever safe there, which is why the dogs are sent overseas to be rehomed, to make sure they are safe and loved for life!
Well, Where do I start with this big Dope? He is 37kg of pure love, he is a gentle giant that just loves to be cuddled and give you his paw! He is a total joy to have and just likes to lay close to you. He walks lovely on a lead and is good off lead, he mixes fine with other dogs of all sizes he is also fine with cats and doesn’t take any notice of them in the home.
Unfortunately, when Duke was in China he had his ears and tail docked, I am not sure why this was done but unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it and neither effect him medically.
He is a happy healthy boy who doesn’t mind life in the slow lane but is also happy to puck up the pace if that’s what you want to do! He loves rolling around in the grass – something he has never done in China as his life was just a concrete cell!
Duke is a beautiful soppy lad and will make a very rewarding addition to his new family. Duke has settled well into our routine and loves pack life, he loves to explore but will always come back when he hears the treat tub opening!!
Duke could be housed with children age 13 years plus that are used to larger breed dogs, he doesn’t have a bad bone in him but he may knock smaller children over.
Duke is neutered, microchipped, de flead and wormed and fully vaccinated, he has also been tested negative for Brucella.
Duke is house trained, walks well on the lead once he is confident with you, he is not destructive, he can be left happily for short periods, he loves to be left snoozing on my bed and is often snuggled up with the cat – once he has stolen all his food of course!!
He is a very social lad so could live with other dogs or would be equally happy as the only dog with lots of human company! Duke is adorable both inside and out, and to think he almost ended up on someone’s plate is just heartbreaking.
Duke is an inquisitive and responsive lad, he is quick to learn and easy to train when food is around, he loves his home comforts and a cuddle, and likes to sleep on the bed with you if he is allowed, although he is equally settled downstairs.
Duke travels very well in the car, he is just an all-round pleasure to have, he is cheeky cute, has the most adorable chops that I am forever playing with!
Whoever adopts this gorgeous man will be very lucky indeed as he really has the most amazing character, and I am sure he is grateful to be out of China and just wants to love his humans.
