Runa is a 4 year old female Boxer cross Labrador. She has a tan, soft, short coat and black masked face with white paws. She stands at 25 inches, and she weighs 25kg. She is coming back to Dogwatch because her family have just had bad health news and so are going to be unable to look after her properly and give her all she needs. Her main walker will no longer be able to walk her.
This is what the family tell us “She is fantastic with the children, although she can get a bit boisterous sometimes when she wants to join in their playing, and she is very protective of them. When she first arrived with us, she lived with our cat but we can’t guarantee that now as our cat passed away.
However she had also lived with cats in Spain. Outside her house might be different but she was fine with one as part of the family. She has lived with dogs all her life but now she is the older dog, she asserts her authority occasionally.
She was already neutered when she came to us as she was 9 months old. Her passport says her birth date is 17/5/18 which would now make her 3.5 years old. Runa is fantastic and we all love her, however unfortunately she was attacked by the same dog twice a while ago and she has become reactive when out on her walks.
It isn’t with every dog, she is fine with dogs she lives with, but my husband was the one who walked her. She had become a lot better with training. She does not like dogs walking behind her, and if a dog shows aggression towards her she tends to cower away but then is likely to have a go herself at the next dog we see. I think it’s fear aggression but shes better once confident.
Runa is still very much a young dog, and gets excited when people arrive however I think most of it is the children exciting her. She is great in the house and very well trained. There is no problem with people just some other dogs. She sits, stands, waits, and can be left for short periods (e.g. doing the shopping).”
We are looking for a home with or without other dogs, with or without children, and certainly with experienced owners as her size means she could be a strong girl if she reacts to other dogs walking close. We feel that with continuation of her training she will improve again.
